Emily Dickinson was born in Massachusetts and was an educated, reclusive introverted person. Most of her contacts with friends were in her written correspondence, as she preferred to be alone writing poetry. Some of her works were published during her lifetime, but it was after her death that thousands of her poems were discovered by her sister and eventually published. The theme of her poems dealt with death and immortality.
